BlephEx
BlephEx is an in-office treatment designed to clean the eyelids and lash line. This treatment is often used to treat blepharitis. Blepharitis is inflammation of the eyelids. This is caused by excessive buildup of bacteria at the base of the eyelashes. This can cause dandruff like flakes to form. As a result, your eyelids may appear red or swollen. This may cause your eyes to feel irritated, burning or sore. You may have flakes or oily particles (crusts) wrapped at the base of your eyelashes. Other times, blepharitis may result from an over-population of microscopic mites, known as Demodex, living inside the eyelash follicles. Blepharitis is common, especially among people who have oily skin, dandruff, or rosacea.
Treatment
BlephEx is an in-office treatment designed to clean your eyelids. We will use a small handheld sponge to scrub and exfoliate your upper and lower eyelids gently. Although this seems relatively simple, this treatment removes debris, preventing the buildup of biofilm. Typically, the procedure lasts between 6 to 8 minutes. After the treatment, you will be free to go about your day as usual. In most cases, BlephEx treatments may need to be repeated if the condition is severe. However, if patients maintain a healthy hygiene regime, the time between treatments can be extended.
